The goal of this project is to create a design document for a VR activity that would serve an educational need. I chose to create a plan for a VR language course that used AI powered avatars to allow students to practice and improve their conversational language skills in a low-pressure virtual environment. A rich VR environment would also teach students about the country’s culture and customs. I analyzed the educational needs and target audience. I identified stakeholders, development cycles, budgets, and timelines. The design document included relevant theoretical perspectives, tool recommendations, script and storyboard examples, and design materials.
Learning objectives include:
- Students will listen, interpret, and analyze what is heard in a spoken conversation to complete a series of tasks or interact in a scenario.
- Students will evaluate the scenario and apply appropriate cultural sensitivity while communicating in the target language
- When put in a scenario, students will demonstrate a high level of proficiency by constructing interpersonal spoken communication with 80% accuracy.
