Audience: Clinicians and hospital staff who interact with patients

Duration: 30 minutes

This short module is designed to teach clinical staff to communicate issues in a way that supports collaboration and patient safety. The education design reflects the principles of engagement by beginning with a relatable hook (If you see something, say something), providing content in multiple formats, and including interactivity throughout the module. The module supports the principles of UDL by incorporating multiple means of representation, accessibility features, multimedia, and low-stakes practice opportunities. This allows learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and preferences to succeed. The evaluation form asks learners to give feedback so that the data can be used to improve the module to better support all leaners.

Learning objectives include:

  • After completing the module, learners will be able to identify the steps of the CUS communication strategy.
  • When presented with an appropriate clinical situation, the learner will apply the CUS communication strategy to avoid a patient-safety incident.
